Rowing: Men's Lightweight Double Scull

WORLD CHAMPIONS! Gold Medal at the 2009 World Rowing Champs in Poznan, Poland
Tell us about yourselves: We were first selected in the lightweight double for NZ in 2008 and have never looked back. With a stellar first year we are looking to build on experience gained last year and push for a top finish at the 2009 World Rowing Champs in Poland this year.
Storm from Invercargill first got involved in rowing at age 12 and went on to be a New Zealand representative at 17. He has two World Under 23 Titles (2005 & 2006) as well as a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Business Studies under his belt.
Peter began at age 13 with Wellington College. From there he went onto get a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Auckland University and then made it into the New Zealand Under 23 team in 2006. There he took out a World Under 23 Title and went straight into the Elite team the year after.
We both have huge interests outside the sport of rowing. Peter has a accounting career to pursue with Deloitte and the end of his rowing career. Storm also has ambitions with the Finance world. To kick back and relax we like to play golf, go surfing and find a good cup of coffee.

Biggest Achievement: Representing New Zealand at the Beijing Olympics, and coming home with a 7th Placing. For both of us it has been a childhood dream to bring home a Gold medal from the Olympics for NZ and gaining experience racing at Beijing has given us a sense of what is needed to fulfill that dream in the future.
How did you get into your sport? Storm: I was approached by an enthusiastic family friend when I was 12 and I have been hooked ever since.
Peter: Firstly my older brother joined up at Wellington College as a rower, I was 3rd Form and then needed a coxswain. I was the right size and interested. Two years later I grew too big and made it to being a rower.
Approach to training and nutrition: We look at nutrition as an important element of our training and competition program. As we do not carry much fat onboard we need to make sure that recovery is done properly so that we can turn up to the next session in the best shape possible and do it all over again. We know exactly how much carbohydrates and protein we need to consume before/during/after our training sessions so that optimal performance during training and competition is reached.

Fav Product:
Sculpt Protein Powder
Reason:
For us with the extent of exercise we complete in a day with sessions lasting up to and over 2 hours of intense exercise two to three times a day nutrition is extremely critical. When you add in the factor that a weight limit is imposed on our competition body weight we are quite often operating at the knife edge of nutrition/performance.
We have found that Horley’s Sculpt Protein Powder and Horley’s Sculpt Bars have a great recovery effect on our body after a hard workout. Being lightweight rowers there is an emphasis on attention to what we put in our body so that we recover fully, but with the criteria of not gaining any weight. We find that Horley’s Sculpt along with the bars can repair our muscle damage and also ensure that we stay lean.
Along with Sculpt we feed on Horleys Meal Replacement HP for easy snack meals and to ensure that we are getting all the nutritional requirements that our body’s need.
